Program to avoid social orphan

Every year more and more children are becoming orphaned, even in case of having parents or relatives. This phenomenon has got name “social abandonment” and to cope with this phenomenon is our Program for, especially in such hard time.

The goal of the project is to provide socially weak families with social-pedagogical support. And also we try to supply such families with foodstuff and the most necessary things in order to prevent material and social crisis. Beside, this program implicates cooperation with local comities for the full realization of Children’s rights.    

Families, which live under the poverty level and families, which are in the risk group, are in the task force of our Family strengthening Program. The criterion of choosing such families is their inability to meet the main needs and the presents of factors, that can concur to social abandonment. Coworkers of the program pay much attention to the poverty-stricken families, families, where children are brought up by the guardians, especially if they are old, also single mothers, especially younger then 25 years old. Also we pay attention to families, where one of the parents is deathly sick or where parents bring up children without any help of relatives.     

Specialists of the program find out needs of each family in order to provide it with necessary support.    Beside social-pedagogical support socially weak family have got package of necessary foodstuff and products of the first need for each under age child.  Children from such families have got the opportunity to develop their skills in different fields, attending developing and educational lessons, together with their parents; also they get psychological and pedagogical consultations, and medical help, if needed.

Due to common work of families and project specialists, relations in the families are improving all the time. Families cope with material and psychological crises. And in case if the family overcome with the crisis, in the way of getting skills and has the opportunity to use them on practice – this fact is our best reward for our efforts. From the beginning of this project activity (from November 2003) specialists gave support to more then 1000 families, which fro this period of time can cope with troubles by themselves. For taday project helps to more then 700 children; 450 – in Kyiv, 250 – in the city of Brovary.

Family strengthening Program is realized in cooperation with Center of social services for the family, children and youth of State Administration of Podol region and with Brovary city center of social services for family, children and youth of Brovary Council.  

Our program invites for cooperation everyone, who would like to. In the way of cooperation our efforts we will create merry and happy future for Ukrainian children.
